A few words from Chris…

“Aye up.

I don’t sit still much- unless I’m at sea. I used to be up for the sunrise surf religiously… these days, I don’t mind a slower start. But once I’m out there, I always think: ‘lucky to still be doing this’.

I’ve got my own way of doing things, but I stay curious. Always learning, always moving. The next challenge? I’m either chasing it- or it’s already chasing me.

See you out there, Chris”

A bit about Chris…

Chris was born in the NE of England, where he grew up racing mountain bikes, fixing up old cars and playing in a punk band. In his 20’s, he qualified as an Anaesthetic Technician to fund his racing—but adventure kept calling. With the nickname Hairy, he travelled the world between race circuits, big walls and surf breaks, living simply to chase something bigger.

A self-supported bike trip through South America lit a new fire: one day, he’d return to Patagonia under sail.

He spent his 30’s getting ready—retraining as a Boatbuilder, learning to sail, to navigate and legally take the reins of offshore yachts. He went out to understand every nut, bolt and system on a yacht. An engineer to the core, he’s a total geek driven by adventure. But just before he was set to go, the unimaginable happened. A crash on his mountain bike. Not his first—but this time, it was spinal.

For many, that would have been the end. But Chris isn’t wired that way. While recovering, unable to sail himself, he built the YouTube channel Sail Hub with his wife Jenni—combining her sports engineering know-how and passion for videography with his experience to share honest, no-nonsense sailing content. Today, they’ve grown a niche following of 40,000+ sailors who appreciate their clean-cut, straight-talking approach.

But the dream never left. Over the last 3 years, it’s quietly been coming back to life. With the green light from doctors, he’s training again—and The GhostShip was born.

Known for his wild ideas, unshakable grit and stubborn optimism, Chris is just a guy who refuses to sit still. And GhostShip is shaping up to be nothing short of a wild ride to a wilder dream. Right now, he’s building back his strength and prepping for his first big push: to navigate Europe’s canal network and across the Channel—under electric power, in a bare hull that’s never been launched, with no mast and no keel.

Never a dull moment.

  • Yes, Chris trained in Boatbuilding at the internationally recognised IBTC, is an engineering enthusiast and has had 25+ years working with motors, composites, metal fabrication and electrical infrastructures. And he’s always finding a way to hang out with the guys at the top to stay up to date.

  • Yes, Chris & myself (Jenni) worked our butts off to get to where we are. We lived off grid for 7+ years and sold everything we could to fund this dream.

  • We wont stop until we’re finished- we intend to learn through a series of individual adventures. Lets cross one bridge at a time…

    From Mountains - Sea voyage:

    July 2025- Sept 25.

    Switzerland - UK, Southampton.

After that, we’ll fit her out just enough for the next adventure (don’t expect cushions). Things will move fast- just not always in a straight line.
